All about me
I trained as a Primary School Teacher way back in the 70's majoring in Graphic Design and Needlework and also spent some time working with clay. Initially after spending 5 years full time teaching in the Midlands I left to start a small business producing pottery and fabric pictures to order and selling to the general public all over the country.
My interest developed further so much so, that now my time is spent supply teaching and producing pieces of work on days when teaching cover is not required, as well as setting up my own web site with the help of my 23 year old son Mark! My daughter Emma, a 16 year old photographic and english student helps me out with the photographs and the grammar!
From my visits to various parts of the world, where the richness and variety of the tones in both the sea and the sky and the effects that light and depth create, I get my inspiration. One day I hope to take my sewing machine to Spain so I can sit and sew in the sunshine!
Although blue plays a dominant role in my work, I also use different colours and textures, including leather, handmade papers, metallic fabric, threads and beads . Earthy colours and influences of nature give another dimension to my work. In fact I am quite warming to the more natural colours, which would come as quite a shock to my long time friend from college Jan Martin!
Each piece of work is unique and I am more than happy to create a piece to your desired colour scheme and/or dimensions. All work is sold mounted and ready to frame. A variety of suitable, modern frames are available from Ikea and Habitat, although the canvas pieces need no framing at all.
